Rashtram

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

With Suresh Gopi's films you know the territory. You know the ingredients. Yet, they definitely hold a special attraction.

Rashtram is certainly one among the long line of political extravaganzas that Suresh Gopi has made his own. At its core, the story is about political evil teams vs good forces.

The story is about Thommichan Ouseppachan, the son of a honest do-gooder Ouseppachan. The latter is such a honest politico that he doesn't take up the mantle of Chief Ministership (after the death of the incumbent Janardhana Kurup) and leaves it to others. He is called Kerala Gandhi.

The buck now stops with Thommichan, who is otherwise a family man (one of the eight sons of Ouseppachan).

The home-minded Thommichan has to now take on the wily foxes of the political arena. Then there are also his siblings.

Intrigue, betrayal, honesty ---it is a tale of human failings and success.

Suresh Gopi plays the larger than life Thommichan while Madhu plays his honest father. Nedumudi Venu plays the Chief Minister. Thilakan is the full-of-guile opposition leader.

Deepak Dev has handled the music while biju Jacob has looked after the camera work.

Sajeevan has maneuvered the script. The talented Anil C Menon has directed the venture.
