The anticipation surrounding Ram Charan’s upcoming film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is growing. Featuring Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead and Kannada superstar Shivaraj Kumar in a key role, this big-budget film is set to incorporate groundbreaking filmmaking techniques inspired by Hollywood. Interestingly, the team has decided to shoot the movie using negative reels.
Certain portions of the film will be shot using negative reels, a technique famously employed in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer. This approach, known for its ability to capture rich, organic visuals with natural color tones, is rarely used in modern cinema due to the dominance of digital technology.
However, cinematographer Ratnavelu, known for his exceptional work in films like Rangasthalam, Robo, Indian 2, and Devara, spearheads this experiment. He has already initiated discussions with Kodak to source the necessary film stock, ensuring the best possible visual quality for RC 16.
Ratnavelu emphasized the challenges and advantages of this method, stating that while digital cameras allow unlimited retakes without additional cost, shooting on film negatives requires meticulous planning and precision. However, the superior depth, texture, and cinematic feel of film reels make it a worthy endeavor.
