Former captain Ravi Shastri, the top contender for the post, will succeed Anil Kumble as the new Team India head coach. Shastri will kick start his role with the Sri Lanka tour.

The BCCI`s Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly, interviewed a total of 5 top candidates. Shastri will be the head coach till the 2019 World Cup.

Shastri had already proved himself as the team director from 2014 to 2016 and was expectedly surprised at being passed for the role of head coach last year.

The new head coach has a one-off T20, three Tests and five ODIs to look forward to.
