Violating COVID protocols, relatives tried to bathe to a COVID victim’s body at a mosque in Kerala's Thrissur district. The deceased identified as Khadeeja succumbed to the deadly virus a day ago. The hospital authority released Khadeeja’s body, wrapped as per the COVID protocol, to her relatives for the funeral. Instead of burying the body as per Covid protocol, it was brought to the mosque. As a religious practice, the relatives of Khadeeja made preparations to give a final bathe to the body before the cremation, without following the protocol. The health workers, who were informed about the preparations being made, stopped the action and took the body in custody.

As per the guidelines issued by the state government related to the funeral of COVID victims, relatives would not be allowed to uncover the body wrap and touch, wash, hug or kiss the dead body. The health department said a case would be taken against Khadeeja's relatives and the mosque committee for violating the protocol. Khadeeja's body will be cremated in the presence of police and health officials following Covid protocol.
