RGV stole my script of Officer: P Jaya Kumar

P Jaya Kumar, a young script-writer, has claimed that the script of 'Officer' was written by him. In a long, open letter, Kumar says the below:

"I'm P Jaya Kumar, a professional film scriptwriter and I'm known for writing the script for a well-known Bollywood movie titled 'Sarkar 3', starring Mr. Amitabh Bachchan directed by Mr. Ram Gopal Varma. I'm associated with the film industry and thus acquainted with Mr. Ram Gopal Varma in 2015 for the first time," he begins saying.

"The creative process for writing for the film 'Sarkar 3' also afforded me the opportunity to share many of my original works, projects, and concepts with him. Therefore, he is in his possession at least 9 scripts of mine out of which he is making films one by one without taking my consent as the copyright owner," Jaya Kumar alleges.

"There is already a copyright infringement case happening on another project between RGV and me in the city civil court Hyderabad: O.S. No. 60 of 2018; it's all on the news," he informs.

"It was in the year 2015 that I conceptualized the original story about a police officer from Hyderabad who is appointed as the chief of a Special Investigation Team constituted by Mumbai High Court and posted in Mumbai to investigate the fake encounters, corruption and racketeering allegations on a Mumbai based corrupt cop, which is per se unique and novel.

After developing the first draft of script, I approached RGV for converting my script into a film. After a series of discussions and email correspondences between us, I shared my script with RGV. After going through the script, he showed interest in the initial script and I was asked to send a final script and after a number of email correspondences, the final script was sent to his email id.

Throughout the process, Mr. Ram Gopal Varma requested many corrections to my original script thus affirming many times that the he has acknowledged the concept, idea and theme are mine," Jaya Kumar claims.

"He assured me that I would be intimated when the production of the film would commence. But I wasn't compensated in any means. I under bonafide impression have been waiting for the call from him and nothing is heard thereafter. Surprisingly he released the official teasers and the official trailer of a film/project titled as 'Officer' over the YouTube channel, starring Nagarjuna.

After watching the two teasers and the trailer, I was shocked and astonished to note that he has copied the script of mine as it can be evident from the dialogues and shots of the two teasers and the trailer. The pitch, the idea, the content, the shots and everything are absolutely taken from my script and I have voluminous documents as proof," he further says.

"The director and the producers have violated my rights as a writer by using my work without my approval. They should have taken my consent first on whether or not I would like to collaborate with them on the project. With all due respect I have for Mr. Nagarjuna sir, I emailed the director, the producers and the hero Mr. Nagarjuna sir himself about my grievance and there was no response. I have no choice but to take legal actions against them.

I'm just a 27 year old hopeful building a career but this is the third time Mr. RGV stole my content without my consent and I believe he will continue to do so since I shared many scripts of mine in the association. Therefore, in what seems to be a first time ever in the history of Indian Cinema, I'm putting out my script for public consumption since it's my content," he says.
