The Harry Potter movie series brought the magical world of imaginary beasts, monsters, and flying broomsticks and is ingrained in the minds of children of the 80s and 90s. No wonder the series is the second best selling books in the world after the Bible and the film series one of the biggest grossing ever in history.

The news has broken out that actor Robbie Coltrane who played Hagrid the magician in all the eight 'Harry Potter' films passed away aged 72 at a hospital near Falkirk in Scotland where he was admitted. Author J.K. Rowling wrote on Twitter "I'll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children."

Coltrane has also appeared in the James Bond films 'Golden Eye' and 'The World Is Not Enough'. Robbie Caltrane appeared in all Harry Potter films released between 2001 and 2011. He was awarded OBE by the British Government in 2006 for his contributions to drama. He is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and ex wife Rhona Gemmell.
