Sabdam Movie Review

Analysis:

The film, directed by Arivazhagan, cleverly integrates sound as both a thematic and narrative device. The film opens with an eerie atmosphere, featuring mysterious suicides in a college and a paranormal investigator who communicates with spirits using a boom mic. However, despite the promising setup, the film gradually falls into a predictable horror formula.

Aadi Pinisetty and Lakshmi Menon played their parts well. Both of them put grand performances in the film. The cinematography, sound design, and background score elevate the film, making it a treat for horror enthusiasts. Simran plays a key role convincingly, while Laila's cameo adds intrigue. The buildup keeps the audience engaged, making the first half feel fresh and exciting.

Once Simran’s character enters, the film loses its uniqueness, following a predictable ghost-revenge arc. The final 30 minutes feel forced and overly dramatic. What starts as an atmospheric strength turns into an excessive, screechy experience by the climax. The climax is filled with typical horror tropes, making it feel exaggerated and underwhelming. Thaman's BGM helps the film to an extent.

Sabdam Movie Review

Sabdham starts strong with a gripping premise and excellent technical execution but gradually loses its impact due to a predictable screenplay and excessive reliance on sound effects. The first half is engaging, but the final act feels uninspired.

Verdict:

Shabdam has an emotional core and engaging horror elements, but an uneven screenplay and a predictable narrative hold it back. The film caters primarily to die-hard horror fans but may not appeal to a wider audience.

Rating: 2.5 / 5.0
