Saif Ali Khan copies me to play villainous roles, says Gulshan Grover

Gulshan Grover is one of the most iconic and recognisable actors of 80s and 90s Bollywood. He used to play villainous roles and his characters usually had a flair which was really unique. In a recent conversation with Zoom Digital, Gulshan talked about the contemporary popular villains of modern Hindi cinema and joked that actors like Saif Ali Khan and Sunil Shetty copy him to play antagonists.

Talking about why A list stars end playing villains today, Gulshan Grover said, "And also every hero, every actor wants to play something different than what the person has been playing. So, it started with that but now many of them are not really 'heroes', they are yesteryear heroes, they are has-beens, they are reject heroes. Therefore, what started as a fascination to play something different has now their necessity. People want to cast them in those kinds of roles only because they do it well and it's interesting."

The actor then went on to joke about how he inspires the current generation of Bollywood villains. He said, "There will be 100 pictures of me in Saif Ali's house. He goes through them every day and wonders, 'How should I style my beard? Should go for kohl-rimmed eyes? What should I do?' Suniel Shetty has even created a Gulshan Grover section in his library. They all go to (celebrity hairstylist) Aalim Hakim, who has a complete scrapbook of my looks. He himself watches my films for inspiration but does not tell them that he is copying from Gulshan Grover."

Grover concluded by saying, "There's only one Bad Man, me, the ultimate villain."
