Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

Radhakrishnan Mangalath is the director who discovered the possibilities of humorous serials in Malayalam television. His 'Indumathi Chandramukhi' was one of the biggest hit in Kerala Serial history, which ran to around an year as numero uno in Kerala households. He has also directed some others like 'Sathi Leelavathi' and 'Koottu Kudumbam', which also fetched appreciable audiences. Now this art director turned director is trying to weave another success story on filmdom with his debut movie titled as 'Sakudumbam Shyamala'.

Scripted by Krishna Poojappura, who is riding high after the success of his debut movies 'Ivar Vivahitharayal' and 'Happy Husbands', the movie will have Urvashy donning the title role of Shyamala, a greedy and foolish housewife. Shyamala in her youth, was not good at studies and fails repeatedly in her Pre-degree examination. On the insistence of an American Malayali guy with whom Shyamala's marriage was fixed, she was enrolled to a parallel college to secure a pass in the pre-degree exam.

But there she falls in love with Vasudevan, a Malayalam tutor in the college. She elopes with him and marries him which results in her family abandoning her. Now Shyamala is the mother of a 25 year old son Adarsh, who is a television editor. Shyamala's biggest dream is to get her son's married to the daughter of any rich American Malayali. Kunchakko Boban plays Adarsh in the movie.

But he falls in love with his colleague, Vandana (Bhama) from a middle class family who is a TV presenter. Shyamala meanwhile accidentally enters politics and becomes quite successful in the field. But her dreams are shattered due to her son's relations with Vandana and she starts opposing them. The film which goes on in this thread will be a family entertainer with lot of humorous sequences.

While Saikumar appear as Shyamala's husband Vasudevan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Nedumudi Venu, Geetha Vijayan, Lalu Alex and Jagadheesh are in other key roles. Urvashy who has recently created a hit in 'Mummy and Me' playing the title character assures that this too is a heroine oriented film with a powerful subject.

Jibu Jacob is the cinematographer and Sanjeevlal is the music director. The popular comedy star Suraj Venjaramoodu had also sang a song for the film. Produced by S Gopakumar under the banner of Kunchuveetil Creations, 'Sakudumbam Shyamala' is slated for a release this July.
