Kani entered film industry to become a an actor but somehow managed to get into the prestigious stable of Iyakkunar Sigaram K.Balachander as an Assistant Director. He debuted as a director with Venkat Prabhu starrer Unnai Charanadaindhen', and has so far directed nine films, which all have his strong implementation of social interest and responsibility. From an appealing Nadodigal' to political thriller Nimirndhu Nil', the multi-talented director has engaged audience through his powerful writing.
Actor-director Sasikumar unearthed the realistic actor in Samuthirakani by offering him the role of Kanagu a cunning man who would do anything for his brother's political ambitions. The critical acclaimn he had acquired for that particular role took him into the National Award dais, for his splendid performance in Visaaranai'.
