Sharing views on his association with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures in producing a unique biopic on India's first women boxer Sanjay Leela Bhansali says, "We are happy to announce that Mary Kom will be releasing on the 5th of September 2014. Mary Kom's story is an inspiring one that touched my heart. Not many films are based on biopics of living people, so this is a rare experiment. I am extremely proud of it."

Mary Kom is the true story of a five-time World Boxing champion and Olympic medalist. Hailing from a poverty ridden family in Manipur, Mary is the true vision of perseverance. Refusing to cave into defeat, Mary stood her ground against all odds, marching towards her inevitable success. An inspiring tale of a formidable athlete, Mary Kom narrates the relentless efforts of a woman who put India on the world boxing map.

Depicting this exhilarating tale of Mary Kom, the film aims to be a game-changer in Bollywood with debut Director - Omung Kumar. Citing the role to be the hardest that she has ever played, Priyanka Chopra will be seen bringing to life a woman torn between societal stigmas, parental pressures and an unquenchable thirst for achieving sporting excellence.

Commenting on this development, Ajit Andhare - COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures said, "The journey of a fighter, and a living legend - Mary Kom is the saga of passionate pursuit of one's dream against all odds. It's a biopic from VMP that we know will create history, like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, once again."

The film chronicles the success of a fighter who made it in a man's world. It is an inspiring tale of a woman who isn't willing to call it day every day.
