Indian cinema's most acclaimed cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Santosh Sivan is all set to remake a Kollywood hit in Hindi. Reportedly, Santhosh Sivan is remaking Lokesh Kanagaraj's debut directorial 'Maanagaram' in Hindi. To be produced by Shibu Thameens of Thameens Films, the remake will have Vikrant Massey playing the lead role of an angry young man which is completely different from anything the actor has done so far.

The upcoming remake will go on floors in January next year and will be shot in Mumbai over a 50-day schedule. An official announcement with full details comprising the cast and crew members is expected to be made soon by the makers.

Released in 2017, Maanagaram starred Sri, Sundeep Kishan and Regina Cassandra in the lead roles. The movie which marked the directorial debut of Lokesh Kanagaraj, who later went on to make ‘Kaithi’ and the Vijay starrer ‘Master’, emerged as a sleeper hit at the box office. While ‘Maanagaram’ had Chennai city as a character in itself, the Hindi version will be set entirely in Mumbai.

Santosh Sivan had earlier directed the Hindi films Asoka (2001) and Taahan (2008). The last Bollywood film he shot was Rangrezz in 2013.
