Sarangapani Jathakam is a quirky slice-of-life family entertainer with an unusual premise that blends astrology, humor, and personal anxiety in a typically Indraganti Mohanakrishna style. Priyadarshi plays the lead role in the film which was released today. Check out the review of the movie.
Story:
Sarangapani (Priyadarshi) works as a car salesman, and he strongly believes in palmistry. However, he falls for his practical and logical superior, Maithili (Roopa Koduvayur). Both get engaged but around the same time, a cheiromantist named Jogeshwar (Srinivas Avasarala) predicts that Sarangapani will commit a crime in the future. Did he commit the crime? Is Maithili aware of it? Is palmistry true? Forms the story of the film.
Analysis:
Priyadarshi brings his trademark natural ease to the role. He’s perfect as Sarangapani — innocent, funny, and deeply worried, all at once. His comedic timing is sharp. Rupa Kodavayur complements him well, adding grace and steadiness to their on-screen pairing. Srinivas Avasarala once again shows his class with subtle humor and dramatic finesse.
Indraganti’s writing works best when it sticks to small, character-driven moments. The first half is breezy and fun, filled with clever dialogues, humorous exchanges, and feel-good romance. The concept of astrology influencing life decisions is tackled with a light-hearted tone, and it works well to an extent.
However, the second half loses steam. Despite a promising setup, the screenplay becomes repetitive and lacks the narrative punch needed to maintain the intrigue. The conflict doesn’t evolve in a gripping way, and some emotional beats feel undercooked. The film tries to stay subtle and realistic, but in doing so, misses the opportunity to add stronger drama or surprises, especially considering the unique core idea.
Technically, the film looks polished. Vivek Sagar’s background score adds a refreshing layer, though the songs are good to ane extent. Cinematography captures the cozy urban setting well, giving the film a pleasing visual texture. Editing could’ve been tighter — especially in the latter portions where scenes feel stretched.
Verdict:
Sarangapani Jathakam is a light-hearted, family-friendly film that delivers laughs and introspective moments in equal measure. The concept of horoscopes dictating one’s life path is explored with gentle satire and warmth. On the whole, it is an enjoyable movie this weekend.
