Poet Vairamuthu has been at the receiving end of criticisms and slanderous speech due to an ‘Andal’ reference he made during a discourse. Not only does he, but naysayers have begun to increasingly throw jabs at his family as well even after knowing full well that he just referenced to a foreign scholar’s work.

Coming to the support of the bard, Sarath Kumar the President of the All India Samuthuva Katchi has voiced his opinions regarding the matter in his social page. He pointed out that before even getting to understand fully, naysayers have gone ballistic aginst the poet despite him apologising for the same. He also vehemently condemned how certain sections of the people slander him with very lewd words bringing all of the respect he earned in his career to go down.

Sarathkumar also cited a couplet from Thirukkural which stresses on winning those who harmed you by actually doing them good. Opining on Tamizhians slandering a fellow Tamilzhan who has a mark in the world for his works in Tamil literature, he also doubted the presence of a third party influence to incite such slanderous behaviour.

“Talking ill about the poet’s mother and his family members is not at all justified. These actions must be severely checked and condemend or it will lead to the separation and destruction of unity among the people,” he said.
