Tamil Nadu is raging against the inhuman treatment and the brutal deaths of two innocents Jayaraj and Fennix from Sathankulam in Thoothukudi city, who were arrested by police officers for opening their shops beyond stipulated timings.

After being arrested and attacked brutally by the police officers, Fennix passed away on June 22 and Jayaraj passed away on June 23. While police reports claim that they both died due to fever and cardiac issues, the police brutality was evident and due to public anger, sub inspectors Raguganesh and Balakrishnan were suspended, other officers were dismissed and inspector Sridhar's name is on hold.

Jayaraj's wife and children have refused to get their bodies, demanding a murder case to be filed on the police officers. DMK MP Kanimozhi who met the family, lashed out at the police department and questioned Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy on how he gave a statement that Jayaraj and Fennix died due to fever and chest pain, even before their bodies were sent for postmortem. She demanded the courts to conduct a proper probe and has also sent a letter to the human rights commission demanding their intervention.
