Second-year B.Sc. student Arya Rajendran becomes youngest Mayor in India

Arya Rajendran, an SFI activist from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has become the country's youngest Mayor after she recently won on a CPM ticket as a ward councilor. A student of BSc (Mathematics), she is the daughter of an electrician. Her mother is a LIC agent. Her brother works in Dubai.

Speaking to TNIE, the youngster said that she wants to make efforts towards making her city waste-free. She has learned a lot by observing the contributions made by frontline workers during the pandemic. The promising Arya is also passionate about healthcare. And she wants to create Primary Health Centres in each of the wards in her town as the Mayor.

Speaking to The NewsMinute, Arya wrote, "There will also be programmes focused on youth, on women and on students." She admires Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan a lot.

In the recent local body polls, the LDF made big gains, while the Congress-led UDF suffered a setback. The BJP made some inroads.
