A Deputy Superintendent of Police posted at Srinagar International Airport, Jammu and Kashmir, identified as Davinder Singh, was arrested along with two terrorists from the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfits after he was spotted ferrying in a car with them in a Kashmir Valley.

Five grenades and three AK-47 rifles were also recovered from Davinder's residence, who will be facing anti-terror charges and those relating to the Arms and Explosives Act. Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, confirmed the arrest. "Yesterday during an operation in Sophian, one Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was arrested along with two wanted Hizbul Mujahideen militants, while they were travelling together in a vehicle on National Highway."

A tip from the Superintendent of Police in the Shopian district alerted the IGP and other officials, who tracked them down. State law enforcement authorities have claimed that Davinder Singh, who was decorated with Police Medal on August 15 last year, will be dealt with as a terrorist as well.

Mentioning that further investigation of the matter is underway, the IGP further added, "He (Davinder Singh) has worked on several anti-militancy operations. But circumstances under which he was arrested... is a heinous crime. That is why he is being treated at par with the militants."
