Shaadi Mubarak Review

'Shaadi Mubarak' is out in theatres today (March 5). Here is our review of the latest box-office release.

Story:

Sunnipenta Madhav (Sagar RK Naidu), an NRI from Australia, visits Hyderabad to look for a prospective bride. Satyabhama (Drishya Raghunath), the daughter of a wedding consultant, takes him to three families in the span of a day to help him find a suitable match. In the process, the duo gets attracted to each other while they have to grapple with a busy schedule and some strange characters.

Analysis:

Writer-director Padmasri tells a rom-com without adding masala frills. The story starts off with Sathyabhama being shown as a 27-year-old woman who is not in a tearing hurry to get hitched. However, her mother wants her to get married. No prizes for guessing that Madhav is the one she is destined to marry. This destiny element is integral to the film. There is an astrologer who predicted their union, besides an accident due to which a ring meant for Madhav's wife gets stubbornly stuck around Sathyabhama's finger.

Most of the story unfolds in the span of a day. Sathyabhama doesn't enjoy the job of midwiving Madhav's 'pelli choopulu'. And she can't hide her dislike for the job. This puts off the prospective groom, who somehow starts liking her cuteness.

The first half is replete with situational humour. Bhadram, Ajay Ghosh and others do a fine job. Rahul Ramakrishna, as a cabbie, is also part of the cast. RJ Hemanth is a caricature, but Aditi Myakal is likable.

In the second half, the plot thickens and the distance between the lead pair widens. Since Madhav is not outspoken, he doesn't know how to reach out to Sathyabhama. The scenes get dragged a bit and the attractiveness of the situational humour gets reduced.

The performances are winsome. Sagar doesn't try intense action scenes for good. He knows his strengths here. Drushya may not have the charm of a star actress but she fits the bill. The dubbing for her character is alright. Hema is not apt in the role of the male lead's mother. Ram Reddy and Shatru are good.

Sunil Kashyap's songs are enjoyable. The cinematography is apt.

Verdict:

'Shaadi Mubarak' comes with loads of situational humour while being relatable at a level. The film tells a somewhat cliche-ridden story with large doses of healthy comedy. At 138 minutes, it is a tad lengthy, though.
