Director Shankar was supposed to begin his next movie after Superstar Rajnikanth's 2.0, which was Indian 2, the sequel to his 1996 blockbuster movie, starring Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles, and produced by Lyca Productions.

However after the initial schedule of shoot the movie did not progress and Kamal Haasan had focused on his Makkal Needhi Maiam campaign for Lok Sabha elections. It was also said that the movie might change hands to Reliance, but that did not happen as well.

Recently there was a rumour that as Indian 2 is not progressing, Shankar is planning to do a movie starring Prabhas and produced by Pen movies, but now it has been revealed that Shankar is completely focused on Indian 2 and reportedly, Shankar and Lyca will be coming to terms on the budget and time frame to complete the movie and resume Indian 2 soon.
