The news of a 22 year old dalit youth Shankar hacked to death at broad daylight in March 2016 brought shock and disappointment in the state. Now the Tirupur court has convicted 11 accused including the girl's parents - father Chinnasamy and mother Annalakshmi.

The eleven accused were booked under sections 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 147 (rioting), 148(rioting armed with deadly weapon), 302(punishment for murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and also under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.  Even though the court has announced persons to be convicted, a judgement regarding the punishment is yet to be made.

Shankar who is survived by his wife Kousalya talking to presspersons has stated that she will comment on the issue only upon reading the complete judgement.
