Shikaar

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

Director Padmakumar had been able to create some mentionable movies in the past like 'Ammakilikoodu', 'Vargam', 'Vasthavan' and 'Parunthu'. All these movies were critically acclaimed but sadly ended up as flops at the Box Office. After several unsuccessful attempts to hit the bulls eye, director Padmakumar is now teaming up with Superstar Mohanlal for a new film titled as 'Shikaar'.

The story written by Suresh Babu unfolds in a forest called Chittazha, a place that comes alive only when it is the time for the bamboo to be harvested. During the season, a dozen of shops are set up in the forest to serve the hundreds of workers and drivers who come up to harvest bamboo and transport them into far off places. Mohanlal is Balaraman in the movie, a lorry driver who frequents this place during the season. Although he appears cool in demeanour, certain incidents from his past continue to haunt him. He is afraid of something related to his past, but no one except Maniappan (Kalabhavan Mani), his trusted aide knows what he is actually after," says Padmakumar about the character. Apart from Maniappan, Balaraman always roams around with Ganga, the daughter of Balaraman's brother. He had been a fatherly figure to Ganga (Ananya), who lost her parents in an accident at the age of four. Balaraman has plans to make her a doctor.

Lalu Alex plays the role of Sathyendran, a native warden of a tribal hostel of the area, who also runs a tea stall during the bamboo season. He is one of the few persons who knows Balaraman, Young star Kailash plays a photographer who has a crush on Ganga.

While Sneha plays Mohanlal's wife, Thalaivasal Vijay who played Sree Narayana Guru in `Yugapurushan' is Ravuthur and Tamil actor-director Samuthirakani is Dr. Abdullah, the other companions of Balaraman.

S Suresh Babu who scripts `Shikaar' maintains that the movie will have ample scope for Lal to perform. ''The sequences are all much different from those previously played by Mohanlal, with enough space for action and sentiments'', says the director.

Manoj Pillai is the cinematographer and M. Jayachandran is the music director. While Renjan Abraham is in charge of `editing Manu Jagath handles the art direction. The movie also features the last songs written by late lyricist Gireesh Puthencherry. `Shikaar' produced by K K Rajagopal under the banner of Sreeraj Productions, will grace the theatres for this Ramzan.
