In that comedy film 'Vinodam', Srikanth and his friends launch a duplicate bank named Uttutthi Bank. As the scene played out, we all laughed to our heart's content as children. What if we told you someone has executed a similar plan in real life? Three persons from Tamil Nadu recently set up a duplicate branch of State Bank of India. They ran it for three months before being caught red-handed by inspecting officials of the SBI!

As reported by Bussiness Standard, one Kamal Babu, the son of two former bank employees, joined hands with two others to float the fake branch. They ran a printing press to print receipts, challans, and rubber stamps.

The branch was located in Panruti. It took an alert customer to spot something fishy with the branch. When the customer got suspicious, he complained to the manager of an SBI branch where he holds an account. The Branch Manager escalated the complaint to his zonal manager, who concluded that Panruti has got only two SBI branches. The third branch, established by the fraudsters, was obviously a fake one!

The police have taken the three offenders into custody.
