Shyam Singha Roy Teaser: Revolutionary hero emancipates victims

A Nani who is looking at an image makeover. Grand sets. Period backdrop. Two roles. The teaser for 'Shyam Singha Roy’ makes us wonder if the film is the biggest outing in the Natural Star's career. Director Rahul Sankrityan has visibly visualized a larger-than-life, epic saga, ably supported by production designer Avinash Kolla.

Producer Venkat Boyanapalli of Niharika Entertainments is a debutant who has spent a bomb on the movie, part of which is set in the Kolkata of a bygone era. There is a punchline and, for a change, it is not in Telugu but Bengali. The premise is striking. Women are forced into slavery in the name of the Devadasi system. Those who are supposed to be their benefactors turn out to be their oppressors. Sai Pallavi, who is seemingly a Devadasi, is one of the victims. A revolutionary writer, who is given to fighting the British, takes it upon himself to emancipate the exploited women from the clutches of a system that has turned evil.

The element of sex slavery is juxtaposed with literature and romance. The film, which also has Krithi Shetty (she kisses on the lips of Vasu, who is also played by Nani), is touted to be a multi-dimensional outing.

As both a Bengali man and a Telugu guy, Nani is irresistible. With music by Mickey J Meyer (a song from the movie was out recently), the film has cinematographer Sanu John Varghese showing his immense talent.

Editing is by Naveen Nooli, while Madonna Sebastian has a role. The song choreography is by Kruti Mahesh and the budding choreographer Yash. Also featuring Rahul Ravindran, Murali Sharma and Abhinav Gomatam, 'SSR' will hit the silver screens in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam on December 24.
