Composed by Ramesh Thamilmani and sung by STR, Periyar Kuthu was released at 4 pm on YouTube today. The lyrics of the song have been penned by Madhan Karky. STR featured in the video as well, performing a kuthu dance with a graphic visualized statue of Periyar in the background.

Through this video song, STR has paid a tribute to activist and social reformer Thanthai Periyar aka E.V. Ramasamy. Even though the unambiguous lyrics including the lines, “unmaiyana naayi adhu nandiryoda kedakkum, ada vesham pottu vandha naayi maanam kettu kulaikkum enna raasaa” could spawn a controversy, his brazen attempt is appreciable.
