Sitaram Yechury re-elected as CPI-M Secretary

Veteran Parliamentarian and Communist leader Sitaram Yechury has been re-elected as the secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Yechury’s election to the top post in the party, which rules the State of Kerala, was finalized yesterday afternoon at the all-India conference of the party being held at Hyderabad.  Various political resolutions were also passed at the conference.

It may be recalled that Yechury took over for the first time as CPI-M secretary from veteran leader Prakash Karat at the 21st party congress held in Visakhapatnam in 2015. With Yechury’s election, it has now become certain that the party has also endorsed his much-touted electoral pact with the Congress in all the States during the ensuing 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The newly-constituted 95-member strong central committee of the party approved the re-election of the 65-year old veteran Sitaram Yechury for the second successive term as the party’s general secretary.
