Having a voters’ ID is not the only mandate to cast a vote in an election, as it is also required for a person to find a spot for themselves in the voters’ list.

Actor Sivakarthikeyan cast his vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha election that was held across Tamil Nadu on April 18, in spite of not securing his name in the voters’ list. The actor allegedly had an argument with an official who refused to let him vote initially. Following the argument, another electoral officer meddled in and allowed him to cast his vote. However, things turned awry when people who did not have their names in the voters’ list demanded the officers to allow them in the voting process as well, quoting the example of Sivakarthikeyan.

Responding to a question to the journalists in this regard, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyaprada Sahoo stated that action will definitely be taken against the official who allowed Sivakarthikeyan to cast his vote in the Lok Sabha election despite not being named in the voters’ list.
