Kannada actor Sivarajkumar, who recently appeared to support Kamal Haasan’s statement that “Kannada originated from Tamil” at the Thug Life audio launch, has now clarified his position, saying he did not fully hear or understand Kamal Haasan’s comments during the event.
The statement made by Kamal Haasan has sparked significant backlash in Karnataka, with leaders including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah publicly condemning the remark. Initially, Sivarajkumar was seen applauding Haasan’s speech, and he later commented in support, questioning, “What have those who criticize Kamal Haasan done for the Kannada language?”
However, in a recent interaction with the media, Sivarajkumar clarified:
“I did not say Kamal Haasan’s comments about Kannada were correct. It’s true I applauded at the time, but I didn’t clearly hear what he said on stage. I have immense respect for the Kannada language, and so did my father. After re-watching the speech at home, I realized what was said, and I do not agree with that opinion.”
His clarification has stirred further discussion, as it marks a shift from his earlier supportive tone. The incident continues to draw attention in both Tamil and Kannada media circles.
