August 31 is special not only because it is the birthday of Yuvan Shankar Raja but also because it is the release day of one of the best films to have emerged with his music. It is also the 50th film of Thala Ajith Kumar. Yes you would have already guessed the name! Today is the sixth anniversary of 'Mankatha'. the most satisfying mass entertainer film in the 25 year long acting career Ajith's. Let's see the Top Five Reasons which make 'Mankatha' the most special for Ajith and his fans but also for many other Tamil movie buffs.

An out and out villain as the hero

Many heroes have played negative roles but the most loved heroic villain or a villainy hero character of Tamil cinema is Vinayak Mahadev. It may sound cliched but that does not take away the fact that Ajith had enormous guts and conviction to play a money freak character in the most important film of his career. The conviction paid well as the film turned into a blockbuster and became a memorable film of his career. The success of the character played by Ajith in this film can be understood by the fact that this is the most favourite Ajith character of most of the general movie buffs who are not his fans.

Not a one-man show

The most important reason why 'Mankatha ' is memorable to many is because it is a film that had many interesting characters apart from the presence of a mass hero. From Prithviraj (Arjun) to Suchithra (Anjali) every character in the film were beautifully interlinked and had a role in moving the script to the next stage. In a film with Ajith and Trisha in lead role, there is a duet song to showcase the romance of Sumanth (Vaibhav) and Suchithra and that itself shows the importance to the characters and situations rather than stars. All the characters from Chettiyar (Jayaprakash) to Kamal Ekambaram (Subbu Panchu) were well crafted and each of them had scope for performance. Most importantly the casting was so perfect.

Music that really enhanced the experience

It may be a coincidence that the film released on Yuvan's birthday but it resulted in a phenomenal treat for his fans. Though the songs and theme music had created good impact before the film's release watching them with the film enhanced the experience. Especially the bgm and the goosebumps stirring 'Mankatha' theme took the mass scenes to an all new level. 'Mankatha' is easily the best musical in Ajith's career and Yvuan had reserved one of his best works for this film.

Screenplay with a lot of surprises

You can write a good story and cast the best artists and technicians but if the script is not entertaining you will lose. This is the unwritten golden rule of cinema. So the success and the cult status for 'Mankatha' would not have been achieved without its thoroughly entertaining and engaging screenplay. The film had a lot of interesting characters with multiple shades and most of the characters also change with the due course of the film. The film also had a lot of twists thrown into to surprise the fans and who can forget the ultimate climax twist which is easily one of the best in the history of Tamil cinema. This aspect that shows that the writer-director was not depending on just the star power of the hero. Special mention to the telephone conversation scene between Ajith and Arjun which would speak volumes about Venkat Prabhu's writing skills.

Flabbergasting Stunt sequences

Despite being a heist thriller with a mass hero in the lead and a lot of characters, 'Mankatha' had a lot of scope for action sequences and the stunt department lead by Stun Silva master had given its best and made the film a complete treat for action lovers and Ajith fans. Ajith's intro itself happens with a stunt sequence. The most crucial heist part of the film includes a awesome bike stunt sequence which is one of the biggest highlights of the film and also the best fan moment. The fight and chase sequences in the second half were also choreographed in a unique style and made a vital contribution to the overall gratification derived from the film.
