Snake bites mother, child dies

A thirty five year old woman in Uttar Pradesh breast fed her three year old child without realising that she was bitten by a cobra. Both the mother and child, who was fed poisoned milk, died before they could reach a hospital.
According to reports the woman was sleeping when the cobra had bit her and in the morning fed her baby immediately after waking up and both of them became weak and fainted. The cobra was found in the other room but escaped before the husband and others tried to beat it to death. The police have registered an accidental death case.
India is the house of 300 species of snakes of which 60 are highly venemous. Out of the 1 lakh deaths due to snake bite in the world an alarming 60000 are from India.
