'Soodhu Kavvum' directed by Nalan Kumarasamy released in 2013 catupulted Vijay Sethupathi into the top league of actors. The film produced by C.V. Kumar of Thirukumaran Entertainment was made on a budget of rupees 2 crores and ended up collecting close to Rs.35 crores. It had music by Santhosh Narayanan who also got his big break and costarred Bobby Simha, Ashok Selvan, Karunakaran, Sanchitha Shetty and others.

A couple of years back C.V. Kumar announced that a sequel to the film will be made and has now officially announced 'Soodhu Kavvum'. Mirchi Shiva is playing the lead role whlle Karunakaran, Ramesh Thilak, Radha Ravi and a few others from the original will be reprising their roles. There is also a buzz that Vijay Sethupathi might put in a cameo appearance.

'Soodhu Kavvum 2' is directed by S.J. Arjun who made his debut with the Siddharth starrer 'Yung Mung Sung' which is yet to be released. Karthik K Thillai is handling the camera and Ignatious Ashwin is the editor. The film is going on floors today and is planned as a quickie.
