A teenage BTech student was found hanging in her hostel room in Chennai's SRM University on Saturday.

The 19-year-old student, identified as Ayushi Rana, hailed from Punjab and had been doing a BTech course in SRM University for the past three years. She was found hanging in her hostel room by fellow students who checked on her by peeping through a window when Ayushi did not respond to their calls. The police have not determined the reason behind her decision as she had not left behind a suicide note. A police offer reportedly informed TNM, "Ayushi had returned to her hostel late on Friday night and was questioned by the warden. The warden had also called her parents to inform them about Ayushi coming in late. After that her parents called Ayushi and spoke to her."

Three other students from the university committed suicide just in 2019, between May 26 and July 15. All of them took their lives by jumping off the campus building and a CB-CID probe into the deaths of the students was ordered by the director-general of police.
