Subramaniam Swamy takes UP CM to task for Gorakhpur LS by-poll loss

Senior BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy has taken Uttar Pradesh chief-minister Yogi Adityanath to task for the party’s humiliating loss in the just-concluded Gorakhpur Lok Sabha by-polls in the State.

As reported earlier, the BJP lost the Lok Sabha by-polls from Gorakhpur and Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh to the BSP and from Araria in Bihar to the RJD. Loss in Gorakhpur, where the Congress couldn’t even save its security deposit, meant that the BJP had lost a stronghold as Yogi Adityanath, the State’s chief-minister, had held the seat on three successive occasions in the Lok Sabha,

Strategic alliance of Mayawati’s BSP and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP did the trick to make the BJP bite the dust. In the meantime, even as the BJP’s high-command is searching for answers for the party’s reverses in Lok Sabha by-polls, its senior leader and Rajya Sabha M.P. Subramaniam Swamy has questioned the ‘right’ of Adityanath to continue to hold on to the post of U.P.’s chief-minister without owning moral responsibility for the defeat.

Swamy has said in New Delhi that the BJP’s high-powered executive committee should have a ‘re-think’ on giving posts of power to those who couldn’t make the party victorious even from their own constituencies.

Yet another senior BJP leader Ramakant Yadav has also lashed out against Yogi Adityanath, stating that the party had erred in appointing as chief-minister a person who was keen only in worshipping at temples.
