The upcoming Tamil movie ‘Sumo’ stars actor Shiva and actress Priya Anand in lead roles. Directed by Hosimin, the film also features Satish, VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, and Japanese sumo wrestler Yoshinori Tashiro in important roles. Music is composed by Nivas K Prasanna, and the film is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International. ‘Sumo’ is set to release on the 25th of this month.
Yoshinori Tashiro, who weighs 170 kg, mentioned that although he has featured in a few commercials in India, this is his first full-length film role. The movie is primarily made for children and was shot in both Japan and Tamil Nadu. He shared his amazement at seeing the Butter Ball rock in Mamallapuram during the shoot and expressed a desire to push it. He also said he enjoys Indian food like idli, dosa, and especially butter chicken. Before starting the film, he visited a Shiva temple in Japan for blessings. He loves the Tamil song ‘Kaadhal Kasa Kuthaiya’ and has visited India eight times, with Chennai being his favorite. He even wishes to live in Kovalam.
As a token of appreciation, the team gifted him statues of Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. Director Hosimin, producer Ishari Ganesh, actress Priya Anand, and music director Nivas K Prasanna were present for the presentation.
Actor Shiva said, “This film revolves around a sumo wrestler who comes from Tokyo to Chennai and meets my character. Their bond develops through love and mutual respect. What happens next forms the rest of the story. Working with Yoshinori Tashiro was a unique experience. Despite his large build, he is comically afraid of our local insect, the 'ee'.”
