Director Sundar C has provided an update on when the film 'Sangamithra' might finally begin production. During the promotions for his upcoming film 'Ganga Sir', he addressed questions about the long-delayed project. Sundar C stated, "Most likely, the work on 'Sangamithra' will start next year. The decision of when to begin lies with me now, and I’m feeling quite confident about it."

He further explained, "Earlier, there were conditions where everything needed to align perfectly before we could proceed. Now, I just have to complete the films I’ve already committed to. Once 'Sangamithra' begins, I will have to dedicate 2 to 3 years solely to that project."

'Sangamithra' was first announced in 2017 at the Cannes Film Festival. Produced by Thenandal Films, the project was set to star Arya, Jayam Ravi, and Shruti Haasan, with music by A.R. Rahman and production design by Sabu Cyril. Although initial work began, the film was shelved due to financial issues faced by the production house. Whether the project will now resume with the same cast and crew is expected to be confirmed soon.
