Supermodel Gigi Hadid, whose glamorous life and successful career are envied by many, recently ran afoul of the law in a girls' trip to the Cayman Islands. According to sources, on July 10 at Owen Roberts International Airport, Customs & Border Control agents found marijuana and related paraphernalias in her luggage leading to her arrest. Her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, also faces similar charges and was arrested as well.

Authorities found relatively small quantities of the substance, however. That suggested it was for personal use. Both Hadid and McCarthy were then taken into custody at the Prisoner Detention Center before being released on bail.

The two celebrities appeared in court on July 12 and entered conditional guilty pleas to their charges of “suspicion of importation of ganja and importation of utensils used for the consumption of ganja.” Accordingly, they each paid $1,000 fines that brought no convictions with them.

The representative of Hadid noted that she had legally bought the marijuana in New York City, possessing a valid medical license for its usage. The representative also said that medical marijuana has been lawful in Grand Cayman since 2017. However, carrying cannabis inside and outside of the territory remains illegal due to local laws which led to the arrests.

Despite the inexplicable scrutiny and attention – thankfully with a merciful tail-wind – Hadid and her party continued their vacation undaunted. The model posted images and videos of her time on the island seemingly unfazed by recent legal setbacks.
