Superstar Rajinikanth today submitted a signed affidavit reportedly giving answers to fifteen queries from the court in the Sterlite shooting case. On the hundredth day of the protests against the Sterlite Factory in Tuticorin a riot broke out resulting in police firing that killed thirteen people on On May 22, 2018. Hundreds of persons also sustained serious injuries.

Rajinikanth then visited the injured in the Tuticorin hospital and consoled them and later speaking to presspersons had stated that antisocial elements infiltrated the peaceful protests and he had proof of the same.

Two summons were issued by the Judge Aruna Jagadeesan Commission that is probing the case to Rajinikanth in February and December 2020 but he did not appear in person citing public interference and his ill health respectively.

Rajini's counsel Ilambaruthi has submitted an affidavit signed by the top actor in which he has reportedly stated that he has no evidence that antisocial elements were the reason for the Tuticorin incident. He had also added that the press meet in which he spoke was unplanned.

A request has been made to the commission to allow Rajini to be questioned through video conferencing as the coronavirus pandemic has made it a norm in most cases as well.
