Supreme Court orders TN govt to seal resorts & hotels near Ooty in 48 hours

In a move welcomed by Nature Enthusiasts and activists the Supreme Court has ordered Tamil Nadu government to seal or shutdown 11 resorts and hotels built on the Elephant corridor in The Nilgitis district. Other hotels in the surrounding areas have been asked to produced the necessary approvial documents to the Ooty collector within the same period of time.
Around 18000 elephants roam the Nilgiris forests during the monsoon and many of them find their pathways obstructed due these illegal constructions. More unfortunate is the elephants and other animals getting electrocuted by the fencing that the property owners put up.
