Suriya’s latest film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, hit theatres on May 1 and has been met with strong critical acclaim and audience appreciation. Within just a few days of release, the film crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the box office, marking a major milestone in Suriya’s career.

In a remarkable gesture following the film’s success, Suriya announced that he is donating ₹10 crore from the profits of Retro to his Agaram Foundation, an initiative focused on supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Speaking at the success meet of Retro, Suriya said:
“The greatest joy lies in sharing. I’m grateful to give back to the community that has given me identity and purpose as an actor. Your support for Retro has filled me with happiness and strength, especially during tough times.”

He added, “Agaram Foundation was born out of a desire to make the recognition you’ve given me meaningful. Thanks to this support, thousands of students are pursuing their dreams. This year, I’m proud to contribute ₹10 crore to the foundation from the earnings of Retro. Let’s support young minds who dream of higher education—because education is a weapon, and education is a shield.”

Suriya’s generous act has been widely praised, with fans and the public applauding his continued commitment to education and social impact.
