Suriya’s much-anticipated film Retro is all set for a grand worldwide release on May 1st, and it’s already making headlines—days before hitting the big screen.
Ticket bookings for Retro opened yesterday, and within just 24 hours, the film raked in ₹5 crore in advance sales, setting a new personal record for Suriya. Even more impressively, the film has surpassed the previous 24-hour booking record held by Ajith's Good Bad Ugly.
While Good Bad Ugly sold approximately 57,000 tickets on its first day of bookings, Retro has stormed ahead with over 82,000 tickets sold in the same time frame. With May 1st being a public holiday across India, theaters have reportedly sold out shows from morning to night.
Starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, Retro also features Joju George, Karunakaran, and Jayaram in key supporting parts. The film boasts a strong technical crew, including music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreya Krishna, editing by Shafiq Mohammed Ali, and art direction by Jackson. Stunt choreography is handled by Jayika, and costume design by Praveen Raja.
Retro is jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Stonebench, and with buzz already sky-high, all eyes are on whether the film can continue its momentum and challenge the overall box office record set by Good Bad Ugly.
