Suriya in a recent speech has criticized the new education policy of the state and central governments of India and urged the people to be more aware and analytical of a system that is going to determine the future of their children and their generations. While the ruling party leaders reacted negatively to Suriya's speech the Makkal Neethi Maiam president Kamal Haasan extended his full support to his younger film industry colleague.

Suriya has sent a letter to Kamal Haasan in which he has stated thanked the veteran and his party for the support against his detractors in the recent issue. The 'Kaappaan' hero has added that similar to how the Ulaganayagan is an inspiration to many young actors in the film world his support in the issue has given a boost to his determination in continuing his efforts for better education.
