June 4, 2025 Published by indiaglitzcom

Suriya’s much-anticipated ?600 crore mega project, Karna, is making headlines again—but this time, for a major shake-up behind the scenes. Initially set to be bankrolled by a leading Bollywood production house, the film is now reportedly switching hands, with Jio Studios emerging as the new frontrunner to take over the ambitious project.

The film, which marks Suriya’s big leap into pan-Indian mythological storytelling, was first announced two years ago. However, after the initial buzz, updates about the project went silent—until now. It is speculated that the original production house backed out, paving the way for Jio Studios to step in and revive the film.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Karna will see Suriya in the titular role of Karnan, a legendary figure from the Mahabharata. Janhvi Kapoor is expected to play the female lead. With a staggering ?600 crore budget, the film is expected to be one of the costliest Indian films ever made.

Sources suggest that pre-production has already begun, and an official announcement regarding the film’s development and timeline is expected soon.

In the meantime, Suriya is busy with a packed slate. He is currently filming Suriya 45 directed by RJ Balaji, and will soon begin work on a project with renowned Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri. Following that, he is set to collaborate with acclaimed director Vetrimaaran for Vaadivasal. Only after completing these commitments is Suriya expected to begin shooting for Karna.
