A popular Indian playback singer's 15-year-old daughter was allegedly sexually abused in Chennai. Four people associated with the crime have been booked after the singer registered a complaint with the Kilpauk All Women Police Station.

The 15-year-old girl, who was staying with her aunt in Chennai, mentioned in her complaint that she was sexually harassed by her uncle, another relative, as well as a church priest, aided by her aunt. The priest allegedly molested the girl at a church in Kilpauk. The playback singer also mentioned that her daughter was sexually assaulted several times over a period of six years when she was staying with her aunt in Chennai. The minor girl apparently returned to Hyderabad 18 months ago. Although she had informed her mother a couple of years ago that her uncle and the priest touched her inappropriately, the singer only took the matter seriously in the last few months.

An investigating official was quoted as saying by a news agency, "At that time the mother told the child that close relatives will not do such harassment. However, the child has been living with the mother for around 18 months and this time the mother took the child's complaint seriously and approached the police." While the victim's aunt has been booked for abetting the crime, the remaining three accused have been booked under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
