Tamil Nadu, other States see a spike in positive cases

States such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are continuing to bear the brunt of Coronavirus, with many more attendees of the Nizamuddin meet of Tablighi Jamaat testing positive in the last 24 hours.

In Tamil Nadu, 75 more persons have tested positive, of which 74 are those who participated in the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi.

"Total positive cases in the state are 309 including 264 who attended the Tablighi event," said Beela Rajesh, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary.

Maharashtra has got a total of 416 positive cases, out of which 81 are new.

The Union Home Ministry has today directed the Delhi Police and DGPs of other concerned States to take necessary legal action against 960 foreigners of the Tablighi Jamaat for violating the provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

It also wrote to States to widely publicize the penal provisions regarding violations of lockdown measures to fight COVID-19.
