Tamil Nadu Army officer killed in face-off with Chinese Army in Ladakh

Tuesday, June 16, 2020 • Tamil Comments

Among the three Indian Army soldiers martyred in action during a violent clash with Chinese troops at one of the standoff points in the Galwan Valley, Ladakh, one of them, reportedly identified as Pazhani, hailed from Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram.

Pazhani served in the Indian Army for 22 years, based on reports. According to an official statement from the Indian Army, "During the de-escalation process in Galwan Valley, a violent face-off took place last night with casualties. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer & 2 soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation." The Army further mentioned that senior military officials of India and China are currently meeting to alleviate the situation in Ladakh. The Indian and Chinese troops have been involved in a massive standoff in eastern Ladakh for over a month. The events leading to the face-off were set in motion following China's strong opposition to India laying a key road in the Finger area around the Pangong Tso Lake besides construction of another road connecting the Darbuk-Shayok-Daulat Beg Oldie road in Galwan Valley. China was apparently laying a road in the Finger area which is not acceptable to India either.

The huge development comes just days after Indian Army Chief Gen MM Naravane said both sides have begun disengaging from Galwan Valley after ensuring that both the countries will guarantee peaceful de-escalation via official statements.
