The state government arrived at the decision following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin at the Secretariat to review the ongoing measures to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. The CM mentioned in his statement that physical classes would be allowed to resume for classes 1 - 8 in the state in all schools (including government-run, state-aided and other boards) after considering feedback from medical experts, educationists and parents. The classes shall be held with strict Covid-19 guidelines in place following the Standard Operating Procedures.

Medical experts, parents, and educationists say students are losing out on learning and are stressed due to the prolonged closure of schools. Hence, all schools are allowed to conduct physical classes for Classes 1 to 8 from November 1 following Covid-19 safety protocols, CM Stalin's statement read.
