In a shocking incident reported from Tamil Nadu, a 30-year-old woman slit her young daughter's throat and killer her before attempting suicide.

The incident happened on Sunday evening in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai district, where the woman was residing with her 35-year-old husband and their 7-year-old daughter. The woman, identified as Suganya, mentioned in her statement with the police that she had been suffering from depression following the death of her mother-in-law, who had died by suicide. She also mentioned that seeing her mother-in-law's dead body had haunted her ever since. Suganya's husband, who is a farmer, returned home that night and found his wife and daughter lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom. Shocked and horrified, he rushed the two of them to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Tiruvannamalai where his daughter was declared dead on arrival. Suganya, who was severely injured, was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.

"The accused woman is said to be depressed and was haunted by bad dreams since spotting her mother-in-law's body," an investigating official reportedly stated. A case has been registered against the accused woman under Section 302 (murder) and a probe into the matter has been initiated.
