Tanker lorries’ strike might cause shortage of LPG cylinder supply

The ensuing indefinite strike announced by tanker lorry operators from 12th February might cause huge shortage in supply of LPG cylinders used for cooking purposes, it is feared.

The strike has been announced by tanker lorry operators to express their protest against the Centre’s decision to change the tender process in this regard.

Speaking to newsmen in Namakkal yesterday, president of the Southern Region LPG Tanker Lorry Operators’ Association confirmed that the Association would go on an indefinite strike from 12th February (tomorrow) if the Centre didn’t withdraw the tender process.

The Association is opposing the conversion of zonal tenders into State tenders and is going on strike so as to force the Union Government to withdraw the changed tender process.  It is expected that the strike by the lorry operators might put innocent people and gas consumers into deep trouble as paucity of supply of gas cylinders looms large.
