TDP, Congress, Left to support YSR Congress’ ‘No Confidence Motion’ in LS

YSR Congress has served a notice to move a ‘no confidence motion’ in the Lok Sabha against the Union Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Opposition parties such as the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Communist Parties (CPI and CPI-M) are likely to vote in favour of the motion.

YSR Congress’ Lok Sabha M.P. Y.V. Subba Reddy had informed Ms. Snehalata Srivastava, Secretary-General, Lok Sabha to permit the part to move the ‘no confidence motion’ today (Saturday) in a letter addressed to the latter.

It may be recalled that the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP Govt. in Andhra Pradesh expressed its disapproval of the utter neglect of the State in the fiscal budget presented last month in Parliament. Naidu was vocal in expressing his and his party’s deep resentment about the BJP overlooking the Party’s long-standing demand for a ‘special status’ accorded to the State which lost out in Budget as it got no big projects.

As a result, the TDP quit the Union Cabinet with its Ministers Choudary and Ashok Gajapathy Raju putting in their papers. TDP, however, asserted that it would still remain part of the BJP-led NDA but severed its ties with the BJP and NDA yesterday, taking exception to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s remarks that ‘sops’ can’t be granted to any State based merely on people’s sentiments.

YSR Congress, which is the leading Opposition party in Andhra Pradesh and which has as many as 9 MPs in Lok Sabha, would be moving the ‘no confidence motion’ in the Lok Sabha this morning. TDP’s 16 MPs besides the Congress, CPI-M and CPI MPs are likely to vote in favour of the motion which may not succeed in toppling the Govt. as the BJP as 272 MPs and its allies have a collective strength of 56 MPs.
