Telugu cinema gets Preeti back

Wednesday, August 18, 2004 • Telugu Comments

Preeti Jinghania is returning at last to Telugu cinema. Her comeback film is an untitled comedy, in which she is paired opposite popular comedian Rajendra Prasad.

"It an interesting role", says the lanky actress who debuted in Telugu with ‘Thammudu’. She impressed then as a timid girl who won her love. Later, in anger-driven ‘Narasimha Naidu’, she marries a widower opposing her parents. Both were huge hits, and the second film set new records, too.

Instead of cashing in on these successes, however, Preeti moved back to Hindi films. But.  she could not make a big impact in Bollywood. Now she wants to concentrate on Telugu films and hopes that her second innings will be more fruitful than her aborted first one.

"I am looking forward to some good offers", says Preeti, who has an image of a soft-spoken girl with strong resolve. In her third Telugu film, she has to tickle the laughing bones. It will be very challenging for her to match the comic timing of veteran Rajendra Prasad but she is confident.

Among Telugu heroines now, Boomika holds the numero uno slot while Trisha is closely behind her. Whether she can give a fight to the top two will depend on how well she plans her career, say the wise men of the industry.

It will also, obviously, depend on whether the lissome actress who has moved the audience before can now make them laugh.
