Teraa Surroor Review

Expectations

Right from the K.L.Saigal era to the times of Kishore Kumar followed by Sonu Nigam and others many top notched singers ventured into the world of acting. While the former turned out to be the superstar, the latter failed miserably. Actor-singers like Kishore Kumar tried to balance between both the worlds, but ended up conquering as a singer. Decade's later one witnessed something unique in the form of Himesh Reshammiya the producer-singer-music director, when he ventured into the world of acting with his surprise hit 'Aap Kaa Surroor'. This movie also boasted many other singers to venture into this niche area of actor-singer with few successful examples such as Ayushmann Khurrana, Ali Zafar, etc. Sadly, Himesh could not sustain his acting stardom and after several attempts once again he returns back with a romantic thriller 'Teraa Surroor'. The music is already making its mark and the good will of 'Aap Kaa Surroor' is still high with Himesh's loyal fans due to which the expectations are decent among his fans and all those who love his type of music.

Story

'Teraa Surroor' is a story of a gangster Raghu (Himesh Reshammiya) and his fiancée Tara (Farah Karimaee). Sadly, due to a one night stand Raghu & Tara decide to end their relationship. Before Raghu could patch things back, Tara gets caught by the narcotics department of Dublin, Ireland. Raghu hires a top lawyer Eli (Monica Dongra), but fails to get Tara released. Finally, he approaches a jail break specialist (Naseeruddin Shah) and decides to set her free from the clutches of law.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story is interesting and intriguing at times. The movie has been presented on the lines of 'Aap Kaa Surroor', with a decent thriller element attached to it. There are a few interesting scenes involving Himesh and Naseeruddin Shah. The dialogues are of top notch and works in the favour of the film. The cinematography is good and the movie has been presented in a stylish manner. Music is one of the key elements with songs like 'Main Woh Chand', 'Bekhudi' and 'Bewafai'. The director Shawn Arranha tries to give us a decent musical drama and partially succeeds. Himesh Reshammiya does his part with total grace. He shines highly in the dialogue based scenes. Farah Karimaee looks good. Naseeruddin Shah in his small role is interesting.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The story takes its own sweet time to come on the right tracks and keeps dragging a lot. The jail-break scene, despite of being interesting and engaging, lacks the hardship. Everything seems so easy and predictable. The finale part should have been more impactful. The director is highly letdown by his writers who should have been more creative. The punch factor was highly missing in the film.Farah Karimaee has hardly anything to offer in terms of her role and performance. Monica Dongra, Shernaz Patel, Kabir Bedi and Shekhar Kapur are highly wasted.

Final 'Glitz'

'Teraa Surroor' is nowhere in comparison with 'Aap Kaa Surroor' but is a decent Musical tale with its share of thrills & frills. It will cater only to a niche audience who love Himesh and still has a high hangover of 'Aap Kaa Surroor'.
